Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) have created an illusion that they provide the best possible rates for your hotel stay, when in reality they are making a huge profit, double dipping on each guest and hotel transaction. We’ve all been there – upon check in, you are surprised with a “resort fee,” and after booking a double queen suite, you end up with a single king bed for you and your third cousin Earl that showers once a week (sorry Earl). Since the OTA is less than helpful in assisting you in being little spoon, we at Treverse decided there had to be a better way to book™. Treverse is the first direct hotel booking platform that places you, the guest, in control of your stay, allowing you to skip the surprises and travel on your terms™. There is a minimal commission fee charged to the guest per booking to help Treverse facilitate the connection with multiple Hotels at the same time giving our Guests more opportunity to find the rate they want to pay and the lowest guaranteed rate every time.

Treverse eliminates the OTA channel and connects guests directly with the hotels of their choice at “No Costs to the Hotel” and a minimal commission fee to the Guest. Guests travel in reverse™ by offering hotels the nightly rate of their choice – hotels shortlisted by the guest receive the offer and have a limited window to accept the rate, creating a direct booking connection with real people in real time with no hidden fees.

Treverse Project

Building a Hotel Booking App to Accommodate Last Minute Travelers get the Best Possible Pricing

Client: Treverse, LLC.
Company Type: Hospitality Management Group
Project Type: Digital Product Eco-System for Hotel Booking
Project Date: March 2018

My Role: UX Architect

Project Summary: Design a consumer digital product that can make it simple to book a hotel on a moment’s notice and get a great rate. Simultaneous live interaction with multiple front desks in real time. With 85% of Americans willing to take a chance to get a great last-minute deal, and 90% of Americans prefer short trips to long ones along with the stress of planning. Our findings by having small focus groups on separate occasions allowed for us to find out that booking last minute on a system other than OTAs is needed, and that Hotels can on occasion offer better rates when approached directly.

User Interviews: 10 Hotel Owners (35 – 62 years of age), 25 Front Desk Clerks (24 – 42 years of age), 25 Hotel Managers, 75 Travelers (19 – 28 years of age) and over 100 Survey Responses

Traveler

  • As a traveler, I want a mobile application to find hotels that fit my budget and preferences, so that I can use the app on the go to find a hotel to stay in.
  • As a traveler, I want to see what value the Treverse app can offer me before I register, so that I can realize the app’s value before I provide my personal information.
  • As a traveler, I want to register myself, so that I can start using the application to make offers on hotel rooms.
  • As a traveler, I want to login to the app, so that I can use the app to make offers on hotel rooms.
  • As a registered traveler, I want the app to use my current location, so that it can find hotels near me.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to filter the hotels by star rating, so that I can decide which hotels match my standards for a room.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to provide a location in case I will be traveling to a future destination, so that the app can find hotels near that destination.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to provide the amount of money that I am willing to spend on a hotel room, so that I don’t break my bank.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to select the hotels that I am interested in after I specify the amount I am willing to spend, so that they can receive my offer.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to send my offer to all nearby hotels, so that I increase the exposure of my offer for a hotel room.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to be notified when my offer is accepted by a hotel, so that I can complete my search for a place to stay.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to see my offer history, so that I know which offers I’ve made vs. which offers I’ve won.
  • As a registered traveler, I want to keep my credit card information with my profile, so that my card can be charged automatically when my offer is accepted.

Hotel Owners

  • As a hotel user, I want to register my hotel and provide my hotel details, so that users of the Treverse app can see my hotel when they provide their offers.
  • As a registered hotel user, I want to see all the offers made on my hotel, so that I can decide if I want to accept any of them.
  • As a registered hotel user, I want to accept offers made on my hotel rooms, so that I can fill up my hotel and maximize occupancy.
  • As a registered hotel user, I want to see what offers I have been made vs. which I have accepted, so that I can fine tune the offers that I accept or ignore.

Parties Involved in an Offer

  • User Client
  • User Admin
  • One or Plurality of Admin Entities offering Goods and/or Services.
  • Monetary Value Proposition
  • Two mobile apparatus’ to communicate

Summary

A digital apparatus system using our method of improved direct booking connection network putting a script into a web application and mobile applications alike to create a communication system between 1 to 1 or plurality of entities. This communication system allowing these said entities to receive one or plurality offers simultaneously which requires the digital apparatus system to contain one or plurality user clients and 1 or many user admins individually. The communication system allows for communication between entities alike to increase direct reservations for various goods and/or services.

The present application advances communication by providing a common set of validation rules that may be accessed and executed either by a user client, a user admin and a server for recording purposes. The present application advances the communication by providing a minimal amount of logic either to the client or admin applications along with a server by generating only a requisite amount of communication logic.

How the Offer Process Work

An offer is sent by a set of communication rules allowing a user client to send a monetary value proposition(MVP) to between a single or multiple user clients simultaneously to our user admin through our direct booking connection system. The system allows for a 1 to 1 or 1 to plurality of admins for goods and/or services. Once the communication has been sent it is recorded and sent instantaneously. An alarm is signaled along with a communication notification to alert the user admin of an incoming proposition.

The process is intended to help with communicating between one client user to one or plurality of entity admin users. Once criteria have been met the list of goods and/or services is shown to the user client and then selections are made of one or plurality of goods and/or services. Then, the communication of an MVP is transmitted either one to one or to a plurality of entities gamifying the sequence that in the first to retrieve and accept the transaction by a live person they will win the business, and it will be communicated back to the user client that the hotel has chosen them. The booking is not finalized until guaranteed with a credit card. After acceptance of the MVP the system will allow the user client to purchase the reservation of the goods and/or services accepted to in the proposition. The offer will then be put to an accepted guaranteed status closing the cycle of the direct booking connection system.

Once an MVP is sent and accepted, there user client must purchase to guarantee the MVP. The user client and user admin dashboards allow for the human interaction of the direct booking connection system process.
